I saw a post on reddit where people posted names of things they made for the world-Continents, characters- and see what impression they give. I think we should do it here too. I'm going to let you guys start off.
What about the name "Mudo"? What about "Atus"? And "Gota"?
As names, Mudo sounds like he'd be a huge bulky war-chief of some sort. Total no nonsense type of guy, but just wants what's best for his village. Atus sounds like a scholarly type of guy; very curious, but unfocused and fairly young. And as for Gota, he sounds shady. Probably affluent and well-respected person, but also feared.
What about Maggie Simons?
She sounds like she'd be a chef at a renowned inn. Very cheerful, empathetic, but a perfectionist and sometimes loses control of her temper.
Cool, self-sufficient girl
What impression does "Gregory Criggle" give?
I get the image of a guy from a very old and wealthy family actually. I picture him to be kinda stuck up, which is why he doesn't just call himself "Greg". I think it's a great name.
Makes me think of the word 'giggle'. Like a jester-like kinda dude. Not flashy or anything, but is always cracking jokes. Kinda like a guy who you'd see always hanging out in the back of a bar; minds his business for the most part, but if you get talking to him he has the craziest stories.
"Gregory Criggle likes to wiggle to the beat of dancing drums" was the first thing that came to my mind. :P Anyways, it sounds like a fun-loving, laid back type of character.
What impression does "Thomnia" give?
I agree with ByGn99 that it sounds like a continent or a nation. I think it sounds old.
Makes me think of the word 'thumb'. Maybe a densely wooded subarctic climate? Known for their lumber and masterful woodworkers. Also known for having odd furniture; in fact, furniture is kind of an obsession for it's residents. Never accept an invitation to a home in Thomnia; there's nowhere to walk around.
Sounds like a continent or a Nation, either way it sounds very average...like theres nothing about the continent/country that is extraordinary. A jack of all trades, master of none.
Just to start things off....what impression does "TerraChronica" give?
'Land Stories' is the first thing I think of :D It has a very worldly feel and is very fitting name for this site. It also just sounds pleasing which is always good. What impression does 'Erdre' give?
I thought that terra Chronica meant Land Book, like we were making a compendium of our world. Endre makes me think of a very stubborn but strong male human, likely a leader of some sort. What does "Pertinax Fide" make you think of?
Pertinax Fide makes me think of some kind of old ritual. It sounds like a name with a long history that has a reason behind it.
TerraChronica makes you think of chronicles of a world, a story, history. Pertinax Fide makes you think of a foreign, alien person-X is a weird letter to use in a name, in English at least, and apart from Xavier.
I think of a Phoenix or some other kind of mythical bird. Probably really bright, colorful, with flowing wings and feathers. What does Narotak make you think of?
Narotak makes me think of a young boy that is exceptionally foolish, but makes up for it with determination.
