Faye are a class of life forms that make up many of the races in the Arcane Realm. Many also typically have a humanoid (or derived) body plan. Many of their innate magical traits abilities due to a variety of internal chemical process that run on/produce magical energy called biomagical functions.
Faye share the following traits:
Organic Heterotrophs: Faye are carbon based life forms composed of organic compounds (organisms) and with the exception of plant based faye, have to breathe, eat, drink water and excrete in order to sustain themselves.
Liminal Beings: Faye partake of the natures of originally different things in appearance or abilities, potentially giving them multiple identities. This is due to the faye origins from the collective unconsciousness which shaped their evolution as opposed to the natural selection of "natural" creatures. Due to the unconscious ideas of humans within the psychic collective, most faye species physical features combines the human mind and body plan with distinct features from other natural creatures or features of the natural environment within one physical body.
Preternatural Creatures: Faye have internal chemical process that run on/produce magical energy, including the biosynthesis of mana generating versions of mundane biological molecules known as biomagical compounds. This internal magic production allows for them to have traits and abilities that seem to bend observed physical laws and different species have those shared with others or are unique to their kind. Some are intentionally used, most others are passively ingrained into the species.
Regeneration Factor: Faye can passively regenerate wounds in a short time via biomagical reactions speeding up the process. The extent of this regeneration prevents the development of scar tissue and even regrow entire limbs within a few minutes to hours however these actions do not set any broken bones on its own. In addition, this magical trait is significantly slowed when the subject is increasingly exhausted or when exposed to substances that interfere with the process.
Negligible Aging: Faye lack measurable symptoms of aging due to their cells' high regenerative properties. Most do not have reduction in functional capabilities past maturity although they oldest known members of faye species have somewhat reduced fitness, especially in reproduction. While potentially biologically immortal, faye can still die for reasons besides aging, such as injury, disease, or predation which are their limiting factors.
Within faye creatures, there are further classifications based on body types.
A humanoid faye's overall body plan has one head, a hominid primate torso, two arms, and two legs used to support the body and consistently run/walk bipedally as the main form of movement.
Demihumanoids share a similar body plan to humanoids with one head, torso, but typically differ in their limbs, usually having animalistic features or appendages. And despite not all technically being bipedal, nearly all have hands or at least a close dexterous replacement. In the past they were referred to as 'monstrous humanoids' but were officially renamed by the United Sapient Species. A demihumanoid possesses the following traits:
