Vadete is the monotheistic religion that worships Vadet, the god of fire, passion, and pleasure. It is the major religion of the Narotak-Tulum region and is exclusively worshiped by the Shasse and Arde as Vadet is the god who created the Shasse.
Adherence varies, but the ideals of Vadete are mainly hedonistic. Even those who do not worship Vadet, do at least live by those ideals as they are deeply ingrained in Arde society. But for worshipers of Vadet, while prayer and visits to temples are not mandatory, keeping one's body as created by Vadet (no tattoos, piercings, or haircuts) is seen as utmost importance.
Temples are few and usually only in large cities. Priestesses work at the temples and upkeep the shrines. Only women may enter the temples, although there are outdoor shrines for the men to pray. Priestesses make the temples their own and usually do not have children; they are to treat patrons of the temple as their children.
In lore, Vadet possessed the power to create fire from his body at will. He used that gift to create the Shasse. They were difficult children, but he loved them regardless. When the Zahbians came in ships to Narotak, Vadet urged the Shasse to make peace and share their mortal pleasures, but the Shasse disregarded his wishes. They killed and enslaved the Zahbian travelers and in the treachery, the Arde race was born. Overcome with hurt, Vadet was overwhelmed by flames. In his death, he rained fire from the sky to distract the Shasse so the Arde, children of fire, could escape to new lands.
The ability to create fire is an extremely rare ability, but because it was responsible for the death of their god, it is punishable by death to anyone found who possesses that magic.
