Ercole d'Este is the current duke of Ferrara, son of Nicolò III and Ricciarda di Saluzzo, married to Eleonora d'Aragona, a noble of the Aragonese kingdom. Despite his old age and his limping foot, destroyed by a stray cannonball during a battle, the duke has preserved the fighting spirit of his youth; not only that, but he conducted an aggressive diplomatic policy, mostly consisting of marrying his daughters into every court possible in Italy and beyond, and has continued to be a patron of arts like the other members of his dynasty, even though it is said that he's not really one for arts and songs.
