Maeotia is the northernmost region of Caucasia, comprising most of the region's northern shore: it stretches from the hilly plains of Nebuhaim, across which lies Lazica, to the mountainous and deeply forested promontory of Scadi, which separates Maeotia from Colchis. Northwards, only the cold, frozen ocean, and the lost land of Hyperborea far to the north, and southwards, the great mountains of the Caucasian separate the region from the valley of Heretia, which can be accessed through few mountain passes, the most important of which are Rayl's Passage, in the east, and Lak's gate, in the west. The region consists mostly of a sparsely inhabited tundra, with some forests scattered here and there, as few trees can grow in this cold region: human settlements are few and far between, but it was here that the Children of Ur first settled in Norsca, after their escape from Hyperborea. Today, most of the humans living in this region are semi-nomadic hunters and gatherers, as this land has very little to offer in the way of agriculture.
