Summary

The Numa, also known as Paiutes, are a native people indigenous of California, once occupying all of its territory: the arrival of the Europeans and their diseases has caused them to reatreat northwards, to southern Idaho and Cascadia, and in the unconquerable region of the Death Valley, beyond the Sierra Nevada mountains. Their society is quite primitive, as they are divided in dozens of different clans, tribes and bands, and often cross the mountains to raid the rich lands of California, once their own. Nanissáanah was born among them, and it is the most common religion among their folk.
