Originally, Haedus was a relic of the Metamorphic Era: a sprawling empire that covered the entire northern half of Westland. However, colonists from Croy came over right at the end of the Second Rise and promptly got cut off by the Vigil of Tears. Haedus helped the impromptu nation of Beeton get to its feet. Later, Fengon attempted to invade northern Haedus to escape the dangers of living on an island during the Second Vigil. Their plan almost worked. Haedan forces surrendered, only for Beeton to send assistance and drive out the offending Fengon forces. As a gesture of gratitude (or political maneuvering, depending on who is telling the story), Haedus ceded all of Westland north of the Saint's Crest mountains to Beeton, receding in to the Foray.
Haedan society is unusually comfortable around evidence of Ley energy's impact on the new world. They live with the land.
